Freedom has many meanings. For some it means financial freedom, for some it means spiritual freedom, and for others it means personal freedom.
But personal freedom comes before everything else.
Before you have personal freedom, which is freedom from what everyone thinks, what everyone expects, and what everyone wants, you won’t be able to have the other freedoms.
Your financial expectations may be tied entirely upon what you think other people expect from you. Your spouses, your parents and family, your friends, your bosses, your coworkers and even acquaintances.
These expectations that are based upon everyone else’s views and opinions of you so that you’re in “the ‘in‘ group”.
You have to make so much money, you have to know so many people, you have to be affiliated with these groups. Or else you’re not good enough.
But that’s a bunch of crap!
You are the best at being you, and there is no one in the WORLD like YOU!
No one that believes the same, no one that behaves the same, no one that has the same skills.
You are YOU and there is no one in the WORLD, out of BILLIONS of people that are the same as YOU!
So feel special. Feel privileged. Feel unique. Feel everything you want to feel, and then fell some more. Have opinions. Speak from your own experiences.
There is never going to be anyone as unique and special as YOU so think and feel and speak from that. From your own thoughts and perspectives and expectations. From your own hopes, dreams, and desires. There is never going to be anyone as unique and special as YOU Click To Tweet
Don’t worry about who may reject you.
Others will gravitate towards you that have had similar life experiences as you.
They won’t be just like you. But no one has to be the same! No cliques, no “in” groups, just individuals sharing some of the same struggles and joys.
When I was growing up, I loved video games. At the time, as a girl, I was very much alone in this. I was made fun of, called a nerd, and had no friends. I wasn’t ashamed of what I enjoyed, but I was very much lonely, insecure, and felt rejected.
Now though, as an adult there are many many more of us that love video games and I wonder how many other young girls were there out there that were like me, alone and made fun of, when we could have somehow found each other and grown up enjoying the same things together instead of as outcasts.
So feel confident in yourself and your thoughts and your hobbies and your desires. Feel confident knowing that you are not alone. Tell the world what you think and what you like. Only through sharing do we break out and find and help others that have similar struggles. To feel supported. To guide them and to feel community.
Experiencing this is liberating.
So tell me, what does freedom mean to you, and what liberating experiences do you remember in your life?
